Problem – Yacht Charter company was spending too much time on orientation classes

 

Anacortes Yacht Charters found that conducting orientation classes was time consuming and costly. Plus the charter client did not want to sit thru and hour of detail while the water was calling. Not to mention that their receptivity for the information was not at maximum.

The operator wanted a way to orient the customer in a friendly informative manner. Because they wanted to present the charter area in the best possible light, they wanted high quality movie and animation. They also wanted the viewer to be able to select what sections they wanted to see.

They also wanted a product they could sell to cover their costs.


Solution

A DVD-Video was created with the entire orientation as part of the express check out option. Animation was used to show various routes and safety areas.

The DVD-Video is packaged with an attractive insert and included with various charts to be sent to the customer weeks or months ahead of their arrival.


Result

Customers come ready to go. They do not have to wait thru the orientation, they get to see everything they need to know before they arrive. All of the charter party are anxious to see the DVD. Local United States Customs agents have asked the charter company what they were doing because their skipper’s were better informed than any other.

AYC has experienced one of the lowest incident rates in years.

Started last spring, most charter customers now opt for the express and fewer classes are needed. AYC now has a new revenue stream with the sale of the DVD as part of the Express Check-In.
